Is AI the Better Artist?
In Ticino, in “Maggia Tal”.
When I paint, it’s a deeply personal process. It always begins with a moment that touches me – something I want to capture. Painting, for me, is also a form of stillness: a way to connect with the subject and, ultimately, with myself.
And this process is something no artificial intelligence can replace.
However, when it comes to creating images for the market – illustrations, graphics, or digital artworks – AI is a serious competitor. I even believe that AI has already taken over a significant part of this space. After all, it draws on countless images, techniques, and rules to deliver impressively perfect results. Everything digital is gradually being overtaken by this technology. The irony of it all: the work of countless visual artists has paved the way for AI to make them obsolete.
But there’s one question AI cannot answer: What makes art human?
We are human, and what moves us is the story behind a piece of art. It’s not just about the finished image – it’s about the artist’s intention and the journey they took to create it. This is where the difference lies: AI exists in the digital realm, not in real life. Painting is more than the generation of images – it’s about expression, emotion, and connection.
With this in mind, I continue to work on my intentions and stories – and I look forward to sharing them with you in the future.
